Our Point of View
Elephant Saves Companions
Pathalgaon, INDIA - An elephant on a rescue mission ripped through
a wall of the well to save his companions, who had accidentally fallen
into it, even as a team of Chhattisgarh Forest Officials stood by
as mute spectators. As federal bureacrats, they demanded special
pay grade raises to include “saving elephants” as an
added job description.
Four elephants, who had accidentally fallen into a well in Tendugudi
village near here, were rescued by one of their companions after
he ripped through a wall to help the elephants come out by climbing
on each other's back.
Villagers and a team of forestry officials stood by as mute spectators
as the pachyderm rescued his companions. However, District Forest
Officer R.K. Kaisar said the villagers had attempted to drag the
elephants out of the well, but they were dissuaded by the presence
of a holy cow in the village, which had turned it’s back on
the elephants and their plight. |
